Traveling Alone

Always wondered if you were meant to travel alone? Here is 7 reasons that will convince you that you can take on the world solo!

1. Meeting New People

Even if it seems contradictory, travelling alone will attract others and will help create many encounters. If you are an extrovert, you will have no problem joining others when you want to have some social interactions. The introverts won't be set aside either: the other travelers are much less likely to be intimidated to exchange with you if you're not in a group. This is even more true if you stay in hostels. It is almost certain that you will be chatting with people from all over the world. So, it is possible that you'll be returning from your solo trip with a new list of friends.

2. Being Alone

If you already like the idea of travelling alone, since you are a well-established loner, don't let my last point cool you down. It is very possible to have moments of your own, if you need them. Same if you're not that much of a solitary being. Even on a group trip, there are times when all you want is a moment of peace. Having one-on-one moments with yourself is often enjoyable, even if you are not the the loneliest wolf on the planet. Travelling alone allows you to choose when you want to enter your bubble, even if you've made new friends. It's really the best of both worlds.

3. Learning a New Language (for real this time)

For anyone who wants to learn a foreign language, there is no better way to learn it than to immerse yourself in a new culture and use it to communicate. Usually, if you travel with others who speak the same first language as your own, you will always tend to exchange in the language in which you are the most comfortable. Being solo requires you to practice this new language that you are so eager to learn! There is no better way to become a polyglot.

4. The Freedom To Do What You Want Whenever You Want It

Have you ever dreamed of living a life where you owe nothing to no one and where you can choose what you want when you want it? Even if daily life doesn't usually allow it (work, responsibilities, etc.), there is a way to fulfill this dream: a solo trip. Yes, you can do what YOU want when YOU want it. If you don't want to see museums? Don't! No need to please a friend or a family member. You want to spend a full day at the beach! Go ahead! No one's going to stop you. Want to spend a good sum on a good meal that will satisfy your gourmet palate? No one will complain. Be free to do what you want when you want in the order that you want. In other words, you can make a customized itinerary, according to the schedule you have set, filled with activities that you have chosen.

5. Getting To Know Yourself and Unwind

Travelling alone is almost as effective as therapy (I say almost). Even if we have lived with ourselves our entire life, it is surprising how little we know ourselves. Spend a lot of time with one person and you'll certainly know all about him/her. In the case of a solo trip, that person is you. You're going to come out of it calmer, more laid-back  and even endowed with some wisdom. I must admit that it won't always be easy to spend so much time in your own head, but you can call it a kind of long-term healing.

6. Learning To Fend For Yourself

There is no better way to learn something than to be forced to do it yourself. A solo adventure allows you to learn a lot since you are the one who must think about and organize everything. All bookings, turn of events and last-minute changes concern you. So, it's obvious that you're going to hone your organizing and resourceful skills.

7. Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone and Complete New Challenges

Following the last point, travelling alone will certainly take you out of your comfort zone. Whether it's working on your resourcefulness or just being alone for a long period of time will lead you to take on new challenges. Participating in extraordinary activities will also give you the sense of accomplishment that new experiences can create. You will come out of your journey with a feeling of self-confidence.
